Health Insurance sub limits

WHAT ARE SUB-LIMITS IN A HEALTH INSURANCE POLICY? HERE’S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW In the last few years, having a health insurance policy has become a must owing to the increasing lifestyle-related ailments and constant rise in healthcare costs. When buying an adequate health insurance, there are numerous factors that must be kept in mind to get the best coverage possible. It is recommended to properly know and understand the jargons of insurance like sub-limits, critical illness and pre-existing diseases related to health insurance. Amongst all these essential features, sub-limit tends to be the most under-rated feature even though it is one of the most crucial elements in a health insurance policy. WHAT IS A SUB-LIMIT? A sub-limit clause in a health insurance policy is a cap that the insurer puts for the policyholder on expenses against a specified medical procedure. It is usually a predetermined limit by the insurer on the total claim amount for some specific diseases or medical treatments. Insurers mostly place sub-limits on doctors’ consultation fee, hospital room rent, ambulance charges and some pre-planned medical procedures such as plastic surgery, cataract operation, knee ligament reconstruction and a few more. Health Insurance

HEALTH INSURANCE: 5 AMAZING BENEFITS, OTHER THAN HOSPITALISATION EXPENSES Buying a health insurance policy is one of the wiser ways to safeguard yourselves from the unexpected health hazards as against simply putting aside a fixed corpus. Any insurance policy be it a health, life or term, if seen from the perspective of investment do have their respective pros and cons. For those, who understands health insurance is only to cover the basic medical expenses, there are few amazing benefits associated with it, other than the hospitalisation expenses. Domiciliary Hospitalisation Health insurance policy covers the expenses incurred during hospitalisation but, what if a patient is not able to reach hospital or there is not a spare room in the hospital at the time of need. In such emergent and unexpected situations, a patient can avail the treatment at home, following the approval from the doctor. This kind of treatment is called as domiciliary hospitalisation and it may vary from amid different policy providers as some insurers provide it some don’t. Organ donor related expenses If there is a casualty whom the doctor has recommended a organ transplant such as kidney, liver, etc. The expenses with regard to organ donor may cost a hefty amount to the patient. Health Policies

DISEASES AFTER HEALTH POLICY PURCHASE SHOULD BE COVERED: IRDAI PANEL Chronic diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, AIDs/HIV infection and Morbid obesity should be covered under medical cover if a person contracts such ailments after buying a health insurance policy, according to recommendations of a panel set up by Irdai. The working group has also suggested a list of 17 diseases, including chronic kidney disease, Hepatitis B, Alzheimer's, epilepsy and HIV & AIDS, which could be excluded from health insurance polices. Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) had set up a working group for standardisation of exclusions in health insurance contracts in July this year. The panel has submitted its report containing host of recommendations to the regulator. "The Working Group recommends that all health conditions acquired after policy inception, other than those that are not covered under the policy contract (such as Infertility and Maternity) should be covered under the policy and cannot be permanently excluded. "Thus, exclusion of diseases contracted after taking the health insurance policy such as for Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, AIDs/HIV infection, Morbid obesity, etc, cannot be permitted," said the report placed on the Irdai's website. It has initially recommended a "list of 17 conditions" for which insurers can incorporate permanent exclusions if they are pre-existing at the time of underwriting. Diwali gift or Bonus. Taxable?

RECEIVED A DIWALI GIFT OR BONUS FROM OFFICE? FIND OUT IF IT IS TAXABLE Although the Gift Tax Act was abolished in 1998, all gifts you receive during Diwali or any other festival may not be tax exempt. Not only do you have to declare all gifts while filing your income tax return (ITR), you may also have to shell out income tax on gifts according to your tax slab. It is important to understand which gifts are taxed and which are not. Besides, there are separate income tax rules governing Diwali gifts or bonus received from your employer, says tax expert Homi Mistry, partner, Deloitte India. Diwali gift or Diwali bonus from employer: If you receive any gift voucher or token worth more than Rs 5,000 from your employer on any ceremonial occasion like Diwali or New Year, then it is treated as part of your salary and taxed according to your tax slab. The tax exemption is limited to gift vouchers or tokens totalling less than Rs 5,000 in any given financial year. Therefore, if you receive two vouchers totalling more than Rs 5,000 during a financial year then you will be taxed. There is no tax exemption on cash given as a gift by an employer. Mistry points out that even if you get Rs 2,000 cash from your employer, it is taxable as income from salary. Riders in LIC Policies

HOW RIDERS ADD VALUE TO YOUR LIFE INSURANCE PLAN The basic objective of buying life insurance is to provide maximum financial security to the dependants in case of untimely death of the policyholder. In almost all the cases the basic sum assured and accrued bonus till the time of death determines the final payout to the nominee. However, there are provisions for providing different benefits in different circumstances, which the policyholder may not even foresee at the time of signing a proposal for taking a life insurance policy. It is a common practice worldwide for life insurers to provide add-on benefits under the same policy on payment of a small additional premium. For example, almost every company offers double accident benefit. This benefit can be secured by payment of additional premium as low as rupee one per thousand sum assured. Rider benefits Under this rider benefit, in case of death by accident a sum equal to the basic sum assured is paid to the nominee over and above the sum assured under the policy. The additional sum under this rider is meant to provide additional funds to help the family. The worst would be that the policyholder, the victim of the accident, is permanently incapacitated and is unable to earn any longer. Changes in LIC Policies

5 NEW CHANGES IN LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU On October 26, 2018, IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) has proposed significant changes in life insurance policies aiming to give a better understanding of the product, the regulator has set considerable benefits for its policyholders. Have a look at these five important changes proposed by IRDAI and understand what it actually means for you: =|1|= Minimum death benefit has been made 7 times for regular premium products and 1.25 times for single premium products for all ages. Current status: The current status for less than 45 years of age is 10 times and for greater than 45 years, it is 7 times to be eligible under section 80C of income tax act to avail tax benefits. Impact on policyholders: This is an insurance product and hence there is death benefit in-built in this. Santosh Agarwal, Associate Director and Cluster Head- Life Insurance, Policybazaar.com told Moneycontrol that making this lower will only benefit the policyholder because the amount of investment that you make, most of it would be going towards investment in the market and not towards the mortality charges. Whether it is 7 times or 10 times, it is not enough as the cost of life can never be measured. “It is best that most of the money that you invest should be invested in the market and help in corpus building rather than getting it deducted for the mortality charges,” she said.
